Trash for residents of Catawba River Plantation was finally picked up this week
Trash for residents of Catawba River Plantation was finally picked up this week.
Apparently, Carolina Disposal, which left residents with garbage lining the streets for weeks, is still trying to charge a $25 cancellation fee.
Shortly after our story aired, trash was picked up for residents in that neighborhood-- but not by Carolina Disposal.
"It looks great," said Resident Nicole Jackson. "It's great to be back to the clean neighborhood we are used to."
One resident wrote FOX 46's Lindsay Clein on Facebook saying:
"Thank you so much for coming out so quickly the other day. I think it got our board members in gear and they had a trash company from Clover come and get our trash. They will be taking over our service."
That message was sent to Lindsay just a day after her story aired-- calling out the fact that Carolina Disposal hadn't picked up garbage in at least two weeks.
"I was like yes!," said Jackson. "Finally-- so it can stop looking like a trash mine around here."
The Better Business Bureau slapped Carolina Disposal with an "F" rating on its website. The company itself, posting to its Facebook page saying all routes are now on normal schedules.
"I'm sure I can speak for the community when I say we want our money back," said Jackson.
State Representative Chaz Beasley teamed up with FOX 46 to get results and get the county involved to help pick up people's trash and get all the garbage gone.
"I decided to jump in because so many people were seeking answers," Beasley said. "And they weren’t responding to emails or texts or calls."
"If you didn't air this story, Lindsay, we'd still be waiting," said Jackson. "We would really still be waiting for our trash to be picked up. I thank you and FOX 46."
FOX 46 still hasn't been able to get in touch with Carolina Disposal. If you need your trash picked up, let us know.
Mecklenburg County will allow impacted customers to use the four full-service disposal centers at no charge for the next 30 days.
If you need trash collected, you can e-mail SolidWaste@MeckNC.gov.
